The New Rochelle Day Nursery, located at 115 Clinton Ave., has been an integral part of the city's community since its founding in 1895, providing education and care for children aged 18 months to 5 years old.

However, the private not-for-profit nursery is now facing "significant financial challenges" that are threatening to close the facility, according to Jonathan Larosa, who has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to collect donations.

These challenges include declining enrollment and rising operational costs that have left the nursery "struggling to keep their doors open," Larosa wrote on the fundraiser page.

"We need your help to raise the funds necessary to cover essential expenses, including staff salaries, maintenance, and educational resources," Larosa added, also writing, "With your support, we can ensure that New Rochelle Day Nursery remains a vibrant place for our kids to thrive."

So far, the effort has collected $450 out of a $300,000 goal since its creation on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
